Faq & Specifications

BikerDog was developed as a safe alternative to walking my dog. BikerDog allows the rider to safely attach a dog to their bike and safely ride while walking the dog. Biker Dog was not developed as a method to run the dog into the ground at great speeds.
BikerDog also acts as a leash. After completing the ride/walk the lead can be used as a leash by simply unhooking the end from the rubber energy absortion. The BikerDog harness has been specifically developed to allow the bike and dog to be ridden/wlaked on either side of the road, with or against traffic. The harness can also be used as a normal dog haresss when using the BikerDog leash while off the BikerDog device.

  1. Is BikerDog safe?   Yes. BikerDog when used at normal walking speeds is completely safe for the dog. We do not recommend that the rider walk the dog at speeds outside those of a quick run while using BikerDog. BikerDog allows the rider to keep both hands on the handle bars at all times. BikerDog allows for a safe distance between the bicycle and the dog, your dog is always protected from on-coming traffic, other bike riders, and pedestrians. Small children should not use BierDog without adult supervision. A light rider has the potential of being pulled by the dog.
  2. Is BikerDog easy to attach to my bike?   Yes, extremely easy. BikerDog attaches to most bikes with conventional chainstays. BikerDog is held in place with 4 hex head screws. Rubber tubing is recommended to go between the brackets and the chainstay to prevent scratching, as well as take up extra space. BikerDog can easily be installed on either side of the bike to accomodate any riding conditions or terrain. Check out WheelieDog at out store if you own a bike with rear suspension, a recumbent, a baby jogger, a wheelchair or bike trailer.
  3. BikerDog's patented design absorbs much of the forces caused by your dog pulling on the bike. BikerDog allows you to have both hands on the handle bars (where they should be) at all times.
  4. What ships with BikerDog?   BikerDog is sold with the BikerDog harness and without. We recommend that the BikerDog harnesss be used with BikerDog. The BikerDog harness allows BikerDog to be attached to either side of the harness (dog) allowing the rider to move with or against traffic.

BikerDog is shipped with the following items:

    1 BikerBone
    2 Frame Brackets

4 Nylon Tipped Set Screws to Snug The BikerBone to the Bike Frame

Depending on the size of your dog the harness size needs to be selected. The medium harness fits dogs 20 - 50 Lbs, the large harness 50 - 120 Lbs.

  5. Can BikerDog be used as a leash?   Yes. After riding with your BikerDog simply unhook the leash end from BikerDog. Keep the leash end attached to your BikerDog harness. The harness is comfortably designed. All tension is around the dogs chest and shoulders, not around the neck. The harness can be attached from the either side.
  6. Does BikerDog come in various colors? BikerDog is currently available in black. The Harness color is also black with red accents.
  7. Can I keep BikerDog attached to my bike when not walking my dog?   Yes. Simply release the pin holding the rubber shaft to the BikerBone.
  8. Will my dog like BikerDog?   As with most new training methods you may see some nervousness by your dog. Use BikerDog consistently and safely and your dog will love it. BikerDog training can also be started when leash training begins. We suggest you hook your dog to BikerDog and then walk beside your bike (with dog attached). Turn right and left to get your dog used to the bike and turning. After you think the dog is comfortable with the bike and harness start riding slowly. Require the same discipline from your dog while using BikerDog as you do while leas walking.
  9. Will BikerDog work with various dog breeds and sizes?   Yes. BikerDog is designed to work with medium to large breed dogs. Depending on the size of your dog the harness size needs to be selected. The medium harness fits dogs 20 - 50 Lbs, the large harness 50 - 120 Lbs.
  10. Why do you want BikerDog?
  • BikerDog is attached to the lowest possible component of the bicycle (the rear triangle), thus reducing risk of wobble produced by the dog.
  • The BikerDog harness is designed to allow for all pulling to be done on the side of the dog as opposed to the top in a conventional harness. This means that the harness is less likely to twist on the dog or to contribute to an unnatural gait during use.
  • BikerDog can simply be converted into a leash and harness by removal of a single pin.
  • BikerDog was designed to protrude from the bike side as little as possible, which allows BikerDog to remain on the bike when not in use and also to allow for tight trail riding.
  • BikerDog packaging is simple and small. The packaging allows for an on-line business to place an address label on the back and place BikerDog in the mail.
